Baked Beans

Baked beans describe the process in which they are prepared*. But what kind of beans are they? Do most people know this? I am going to google it right now.

Image from here

*and are they actually baked? Aren't they stewed or simmered?

  1. I've got several recipes for baked beans using different varieties of beans but they are all in fact baked in the oven.

  2. Wikipedia says: Baked beans is a dish containing beans, sometimes baked but, despite the name, usually stewed, in a sauce. Most commercial canned baked beans are made from haricot beans, also known as navy beans.

So what's the difference between them being baked and simmered?

  3. I don't think there's much of one because I've seen a lot of recipes that say bake or simmer for X amount of time.

Ok none of my recipes call for navy beans but that could be because I hate navy beans!!! They're one of the few beans I am extremely hostile towards. Go figure.

My Dogs are sooo sick of the rain!!

  4. You know I have always wondered that! Thanks for sharing!
