Hairs Out of Place

It's that time of the year again folks:

When will I learn from my past mistakes?

Showing Signs

Earlier this week I saw a panhandler holding 2 signs that read:

"Hungry it's summer let's bbq"
"Do black panthers scratch and bite?"

I liked his spirit in the first sign. But what did the second one mean?

Feel your Oats

Now that it's almost summer, don't you want a steaming hot breakfast in the morning? Well I sure do! Here's how:

Slow Cooker Oatmeal

What you will need:
  • slow cooker
  • oatmeal (1 cup steel cut)
  • water or milk (4 cups)

Use steel cut oat meal, it's so much better. Those rolled old fashion ones are good for cookies but not for breakfast.

Add 1 cup of steel cut oat meal to the slower cooker. Then add 4 cups water or milk (I've tried both):

Cover and turn on low and let it do it's thing for 8 hours. I always do this before I go to bed. Nothing gets me out of bed faster than potentially cleaning out burnt oatmeal from a slow cooker.

And wake up to yummy gooey oatmeal. I've dressed mine up with maple syrup, blueberries, but my favorite is sliced strawberries and brown sugar sprinkled on top:

Yum.

Green water

It's no secret that I love artichokes. And I like to steam them.
But I am left with this afterward:

It happens every time. Is this normal?

Purim Luck

A couple months ago I found a reusable bag full of these in celebration of Purim (it's a very Jewish area):

The bag has since been lost (I hate when I leave them in the shopping cart) but I did learn about this holiday:

Purim is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination.

It's basically a Jewish Mardis Gras. Minus the cause for bead throwing.

Anyway, the recipe above is for hamentaschen. It's a jam filled pocket. I haven't tried it yet but that's what the round cookie cutter is for. The biscotti and granola bar didn't stand a chance.

Have you found anything surprisingly fun and educational and possibly edible?
